IN THIS LESSON

Learn the etiquette all judges should follow during the round.

Please be respectful towards all the competitors that have worked hard to prepare for the tournament.

Please keep your camera on during the round so the competitors can see you. Do not play games, watch videos, or split your attention with other tasks while judging the rounds.

Do not split your attention with other tasks while judging!

Many first time judges feel they are unqualified or unfit to judge. This is untrue!

Speech and debate are educational events open to anyone. As a judge, we are asking for your opinion on the speeches. There is no right or wrong opinion.

As as judge, we simply ask that you be present, be professional, and try your best.

Please refrain from saying comments like:

“I have no idea what I’m doing.”

Even if it is your first time judging. This discourages the competitors.

It’s okay to feel nervous as a first time judge. This is why we offer the tutorial videos for each event, rulebooks, and judge training prior to the tournament. The tournament staff are always at hand to support you.

If you have any questions during the tournament, come to the help room or the judge’s room. The link is also on the bottom left side of the tournament home page.

Please use the resources to prepare before the tournament and do your best to fulfill your responsibilities as a judge.
